Cave No.1 (cave of stone drum) 471-494 A.D.
Cave No.1 and Cave No.2 are a set of stupa shrine typed caves. on both outsides of one cave still remained a square pagoda separately. Zhu Tinghan, the poet of Qing, whose poem “You Yugang Shi Fu Si Shi” is inscribed on the eastern side of hamming window outside of Cave No.1. The pattern of the cave is rectangle, flat ceiling, the central square column has two levels, imitate the eaves of wooden tower roof. The primary image on north wall is crossing feet Maitreya. On bottom of east wall depiced a Jataka story of Samaka in relief. According to the textual research, Cave No.1 and Cave No. 2 are HuGuoSi before Liao Dynasty, is one of ten temples in Yungang. It is named “Shi Gu Han Quan” during Ming and Qing, belong to one of eight sights of Yungang.
